MG Shenlong - WIP 5

Just trying out different back grounds.  I did nothing to the white armour.  Just left it as is as I'm prone to do.  I'm not finicky about my whites unless we're talking about my t-shirts and socks.

Sometimes when you're making Gunpla you gotta make some cinnamon rolls too.  What?  You don't do that?!

Which one of the backgrounds do you like and why? Any opinions? Just curious.

  1. Well, I can tell straight off that the camera settings are different for each picture, which is throwing off my ability to determine which is the best background for displaying your Gunpla. But I'll try;

    The white background forced the camera to align itself to a narrower color variation on the brighter side, which allows the white parts to be seen without being overblown. However, dark/black parts appear to be grey. This could be corrected with Photoshop, if the camera can't be set correctly, but it will produce some noise in the image.

    The grey (sheetrock?) background gives you the greatest color variation, allowing the blacks to be very black and the whites to be very white. With the proper camera settings, this would be the best choice. I see little-to-no need to adjust this image in Photoshop.

    The black has a nice texture to it, but forces the white of the model to be over-blown, as the colors are skewed darker. However, the darker areas, such as the cockpit, are now brought out, allowing them to be viewed easily. Due to the over-blown white, camera settings would have to be adjusted to make the details of the white stand out. Photoshop can't fix this.

    That said, I like the look of the black background. The texture of the background and contrast with the table & modelkit is very nice. If the camera settings are changed, this could easily be the best of the three.

  3. You're very welcome. A lot of people think of everything except camera settings and lighting. Those play as much a role in how a model look, as the actual gunpla assembling itself.
