Zeta Gundam Movies

I just watched the first one last night and I have to say... Wow!  I actually tried to watch it years ago before I knew anything about Zeta or even 0079 for that matter and I just ended up falling asleep.  Probably because I watched it at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon while waiting for my gf at the time to get off work.  Wasn't really into it.  But I watched it again last night (at a friends request) and I was totally blown away!  It's SO good!  Of course they skipped a lot but they kept the best/most important parts in there I think.  It was 2h of solid entertainment!  At least I think it was 2h.  I can say this now after having watched both Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam in their entirety.  

Whereas I could only watch the Original Gundam movie trilogy in sections (about 30 minutes at a time.  It was kind of repetitive and the old style animation didn't really do much for my modern sensibilities)  the first Zeta movie was an action packed 2h and totally worth it.  It blends new style 2005 animation techniques with the original Zeta animation from 1985.  Very impressive and highly recommended if you're a UC fan.  Then again... If you're a UC fan you're probably saying "Damn this guy is just watching this NOW?!".  Yeah...  I know.  Check out this clip!  So good!  I love seeing old style UC done with modern techniques!  They should have done this for the original series for the 30th anniversary of Gundam!  Maybe they'll do it in 20 years for the 50th?!

I gotta say... after watching the MS Gundam compilation movies and now the first Zeta Gundam movie... The whole series becomes much easier to understand (despite a couple of differences). I told my friend that it's good that she's seeing it like this. It's better than the original imo. Especially for beginners.

Did you watch the compilation movies of 0079 and/or Zeta?  If so how did you think they compared with the series if you watched those too?

wtf were they thinking? QanT is the only one that looks even semi-normal.  The add ons for these suits are just ridiculous.  Why even bother?  Just make them mobile armours.  Crazy.

Unicorn OVA Sinanju

I like it! It looks quite sturdy and strong. Powerful. Like a Sinanju should. I think what they're going to do in Ep.2 is going to be really good. Too bad we have to wait until Autumn to see it though.

FLAG FIGHTERS FOR LIFE!!!

Flags are back! AND Graham is back in a Flag!!! About god damned time! Maybe now he'll be remembered as the awesome pilot that he truly was before the BUTCHERING he received in Season 2. And that's seriously the nicest way I can put it. Flags look a bit different now though. The transformation sequence looks a bit better then the original Flag imo. Happy this is coming out but to be honest the Unicorn OVA's are more of a priority now. I can't barely even remember the messed up 00 storyline anymore. Still though, I'm sure it will be good.

Gundam Unicorn first 7 minutes

Man, I am SO stoked I'm going to be able to watch this in the theatre. The place where they're showing it in Nagoya is a 10 minute walk from my house and it's going to be playing when I get back to Japan!



If my Japanese is correct this story is shaping up to be something quite epic. Never mind the level of animation. Wow. I'm calling it right now. This is going to be one of the best U.C. series ever.

The above pic is a screen shot I took of it. This movie is shaping up to be pretty good but why can't we see even one shot of the Sinanju in it?! Surely they'll put it in the movie! Right?!

Anyway my favourite parts of this clip were seeing the Stark Jegan get destroyed, the ReZel launching and fighting and the Loto transforming.

Did anyone notice the link between the Loto design and the F-50D Guntank R-44 used in F91? Fits the time line and the design tree... Different colour scheme though. I only saw F91 a couple of weeks ago and I noticed the connection right away.

Generally I don't watch JP movies in the theater (even the Zeta re-releases) but I'll make an exception for this one.
