Sunshine.
Sunshine.
Sunshine... really? Who decided that that would be an appropriate name for a war machine? Sunshine. GA GAN01 SunShine L. *sigh*
Even though I don't know that much about Armored Core (Don't think I've played one since... AC2) the mech certainly got my attention just because of the name alone.
Anyway take a look and tell me if this is a mech befitting of the name. Are there any other names for mechs that you think are weird? Honestly, I don't really mind the design and the name has kind of grown on me. I like dichotomies. I may even buy this someday just because of how... unusual it is.

Mechs with funny names? Off the top of my head:
ReplyDeleteXabungle - and YES, he does BUNGLE a lot.
Infinite Justice - More befitting a superhero than a mech, honestly.
Brutishdog - It's a brute of a dog.
Destroy Gundam - Because that's what Gundams DO, apparently.
Half the Gundams featured in G Gundam - 'Nuff said.
Beginning Gundam - Because "Beginner's Gundam" sounds just so AMATEUR.
Z'Gok - Sounds way too much like an alien invader. When somebody mentions this name, I have the urge to ask them if they've got something stuck in their throat.
Ganbaruger - Would you like fries with that? I know it's a play off of "ganbaru", but it still sounds like a funky Happy Meal sandwich.
The Big O - *snicker* Next!
AGWS - Because of the Japanese tendency to pronounce the abbreviated letters of multi-worded names as one word despite not sounding like words at all like a proper acronym should be - e.g. the F91's Variable Speed Beam Rifle(VSBR) is pronounced "Vesber" this mech's name ends up sounding like "eggs".
Jet Alone - with a name like that, it's no wonder it can't find a date.
Mechs in general are cool...but man, the above mentioned names will never be uttered by me in public or to anyone other than a fellow mech enthusiast.
that is an awesome comment! BIG O! LOL i never even thought of that! cant believe it
ReplyDeleteoh man theres so much gold in that comment. i might be forced to make a separate post about it!
LOL nice list XD
ReplyDeletewhat can i think of is..
Nineball Seraph..directly referring to idiot Cirno
Sunshine... haha that is an awesome name for a mech regardless of whether it works or not xD. It reminds me of Shin Getter's deadly final attack "STONER SUNSHINE"...
ReplyDeleteCan't really think of any weird mecha names now... except Strike Freedom. Ckai made a pretty good list ^^
pretty much all the npc's in the Armored Core games have wacky names.

take a look at Sunshine E wich will be released soon - much more meneancing than sunshine L
ReplyDeleteas for the names, if I were a grunt or a regular pilot I would not care about a name of the machine I'm fithing - I would try to survive
And If I would be he pilot, actulay sunshine isn't that bad, a little ironic and if enemis would not take me serios because of the name - thay would have an unpleasant suprise :D
The SunShine L bears quite the resemblance to that blocky green AC of old, the Merrygate. This mech's probably an homage, so they had to give it a happy name I guess. Sunshine seems like an obvious choice.
ReplyDeleteAnd mechs with funny names are everywhere. Almost as easy to find as mech homages. I mean, what does Tieren even mean, and has anyone noticed it's number, MSJ-06II-A, sounds alot like the MS-06-II Zaku 2?
@Shaomu: Tieren, according to some sources, refers to Chinese "Tie Ren" which means "Iron Man", and I'm not thinking references to US comics/cartoon Iron Man. The meaning sounds kinda 'tough' to my ear, and for me it makes more sense than Enact or Flag. Btw the 1/100 Tieren kit is honestly awesome!
ReplyDelete^ OH! That would makes sense why "Tieren Taozi" sounds like such a Chinese name...
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing in one translation "Tieren Tau -2" instead of taozi - (tao - zu)
ReplyDeleteyeah i also heard from ngee that it means Iron Man in chinese.
